Common Courtesy Using an Escalator Wrong: You use an escalator because it is much easier and less tiring than climbing or descending a long flight of stairs. Since you are not in a hurry or too tired to also move your legs adding to the speed you move on the escalator you stand in the middle so that nobody may bypass you. This prevents the "walkers" from passing by you and proceeding up or down the escalator. You care not at all for others and are not even aware that you are completely in the way of others. Not thoughtful, not intelligent, and certainly not courteous. Right: Using an escalator is much easier and more convenient than climbing or descending a long flight of stairs. Since you are not in a hurry and understand others behind you may want to go faster, you therefore are considerate and stand to the right hand side to allow the "walkers" to easily pass you on the left hand side and go on with their way. An intelligent person thinks past their own wishes and desires and thinks and understands that everyday movements and actions always affect others.
