[What's Right, What's Wrong]

Common Courtesy

Waiting On Line to Purchase Anything
Wrong: Make the person wait behind you until your large order is finished, even though it would only take one minute for that person to check out. First come, first serve... maybe next time that person will be quicker to get on line.
Right: If you see that the person behind you has one or two items, it is unfair to make them wait for you to ring up your order if it is large and time consuming. Be generous and allow the person to skip in front of you.

Comments:
Just today my wife came back from her weekly shopping at the local supermarket. She had about 30-35 separate items in her shopping cart. While standing in line at the checkout counter she noticed that a man standing behind her, also waiting to checkout only had 3 items in his hands. So when my wife got to the cashier, she turned around and told the man with the 3 items to go ahead of her because her checkout will take much more time. The man politely refused and said that was very kind of her - however my wife told me she insisted and the man finally, very graciously accepted and was very appreciative of her courtesy and understanding of his position of only having 3 small items to pay for.
After he went ahead of my wife, he paid for his three items, but then waited - helped my wife pack her items into the usual white plastic supermarket bags, and after my wife paid her bill, he picked up two bags out of the three and carried them all the way to her car and actually put them and the bag she carried all into her car. He was so appreciative of my wife's offer to him to go ahead of her, he couldn't do enough to help her and again thank her.
